Sunday, January 163:30 - 4:30 PM Author Visit - Batt Huphreys - Charleston journalist Batt Humphreys will discuss the background of his book Dead Weight after the meeting of the Aiken Genealogical Society, in a program that is open to the public. The Friends of the Aiken Library will sponsor a book signing after the presentation, where you can buy a signed copy of the book from the author. Thursday, January 204:00 - 5:00 PM After School Program: Mo Willems Party Play the “Party Game”, make your own Pigeon book, and learn how to draw the Pigeon. Willems has authored numerous books for young children, many of which have garnered significant critical acclaim. The New York Times Book Review referred to Willems as "the biggest new talent to emerge thus far in the 00's" — and to his pigeon character as "one of this decade's contributions to the pantheon of great picture book characters." Three of Willems' books have been awarded a Caldecott Honor: Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! (2004), Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale (2005), and Knuffle Bunny Too: A Case of Mistaken Identity (2008). Recently he has been creating the Elephant and Piggie books, an early reader series about a friendly elephant and pig. Elephant and Piggie won the Theodor Seuss Geisel Medal in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, Willems introduced a new series of books featuring Cat the Cat, also aimed at early readers. Author's web site.

Starring Diane Lane, Scott Glenn, and James Cromwell. If you enjoy this movie and want to learn more about this most famous horse, you should check out the nonfiction book Secretariat, by William Nack , which is the main basis for the movie, or The Horse God Built: The Untold Story of Secretariat, the World's Greatest Racehorse by Lawrence Scanlan .

American Girl is a line of dolls, books, and accessories based on pre-teen girl characters that originally focused on various periods of American history from the viewpoint of girls and has now expanded to include dolls of and stories about contemporary girls.
Sunday, February 272:30 - 3:30 PM Black History with Teacher and Author Ginetta Hamilton - Sponsored by the SC Humanities Council Speakers Bureau Program, this program for all ages will feature Ginetta Hamilton's book Black History: Someone Forgot to Teach the Children.
